Today, Hlehel not only knows Ali's poetry, but has written in his voice and embodied him in the award-winning one-man play Taha (see review in sidebar).
Based in Haifa, a city in Israel, the Palestinian artist has directed and acted in several Palestinian films. He's also adapted and directed a number of plays and performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

You said during the 'In Conversation' session that after doing the play Taha, you became a different person and artist. How did it change you?
Before Taha, I wanted to prove that I was a good actor. After Taha, I discovered that I didn't need to prove anything anymore because I discovered as an actor the mission is to deliver the story well. It's a big relief when you don't have this need to prove to everybody that you're good. As a person, I became more comfortable with my work, with my life. I'm so lucky with Taha. When you get to see the result of sharing your work, something inside you becomes more flexible, more adult.
