Dalia Antonia Muller, Associate Professor of History at the University at Buffalo, is the author of of Cuban Émigres and Independence in the Nineteenth-Century Gulf World (University of North Carolina Press, 2017). It explores the struggles of Cuban migrants stranded abroad who were denied rights they should have enjoyed as citizens, as well as the struggles of self-identified Africans in Cuba who resisted membership in the Cuban nation but were forced to accept Cuban citizenship.
